RISD: Society in the Spectacle

With support from educators Hannah Liongoren and Wesley Sanders, second-year students in RISD’s Introduction to Interior Studies II course examined how interior environments shape human experience through context, narrative, movement, and collective interaction. The resulting project complete transformed our space and included a pavilion-like structure that served as both meeting space and screening room; a custom-built reception table; event marketing materials and narrative; and a series of small film-inspired interior mockups on display.

Students included Fern Nunez-Flores, Joon Chang, Thao Anh Nguyễn, and Carolina Chen He (Curation Department); Jack Liu, Khushi Hardwani, Shreyasi Jindal, and Ji An Yang (Exhibition Department); and Shinwoo Eom, David Kim, Rino Nishida , and Adhiraj Singh (Structure Department).

Students were organized into three teams—Curation, Structure, and Exhibition—each responsible for different aspects of the event. Together, they designed and fabricated a welcome and wayfinding installation, the screening pavilion itself, and an exhibition system showcasing work and models from the Imaginative Sanctuary project under the collective title Pars: Prototo. The semester concluded with a one-night-only public event held on May 20 from 6–9 PM.

These kids worked hard. In many cases, it was their first time building a larger scale physical structure. Congrats to all on the abitions end to the 2026 academic year =)
