In 2023, we purchased a basket of 100 Portuguese-language 45 RPM records from The Emporium, a second hand shop in Swansea. The majority are signed by their former owner, Tony Sonto. A mix of Fado, pop, folk, and new wave—including a rare 7” from the Fall River band Capitalists. On Sunday October 5, 2025 we listened to them at Myrtle.
The first 90 minutes or so featured the 45s themselves; we then explored contemporary music by artists living in, or on labels based in Portugal. Mad About Records, Príncipe, Canopy, Magic Carpet, and so on. Below are some of the scans; a project that’s in progress. We also made a Spotify playlist of all the works we could find on there.
