Here & Elsewhere brings together seven artists who live and work in Providence’s West End. With roots both deep and new to the neighborhood, each artist explores themes of presence in their work in relation to time, place, and space. Through prints, paintings, photographs, sculpture, and installation, Jazzmen Lee-Johnson, Julia Liu, Heather McPherson, Ari Montford, Norlan Olivo, Jenn Recinos, and Dan Talbot conjure a multifaceted picture of a neighborhood in flux. Diverse, divergent, and personal relationships to people and places on the West End and elsewhere are presented through each artist’s unique lens. Look closely. Who do you see? What do you recognize? We invite you into varied inner worlds, alternate futures, and lived realities, as artists visualize loss, decay, connection, shared space, and change.
