Recent Acquisitions

Some interesting arrivals this week; additions to Star Dot Star and Where Life is Worth Living. We’re in the process of getting everything boxed up and ready to make the move cross town from Wayland Square to 50 Sims!

Above: From 1967, the first of Doris Drake’s self-published books on needlepoint. A really fantastic set of drawings in pretty good condition, all things considered. This is part of our collection of glyph-based works, Star Dot Star, which began with ASCII but quickly grew to incorporate typewriter, RTTY, and more. The similarities with needlepoint and cross-stitch are self evident, but historical texts rarely link them. These designs 100% call to mind the family-friendly, poppy work of ASCII pioneers like Joan G. Stark.

Above: This typewriter portrait graces the cover of Sardukar #2, a sci-fi fanzine from the late 1960s which was edited and published by Bob Robert Vardeman. Contains a mix of letter responses and a review of Space Thing (a sci fi adult film?); kind of hard to tell exactly what’s going on but, a great example of 60s typewriter art.

Above: The first panoramic postcard in our collection, Where Life is Worth Living. This one has a note on the back, but never went through the post. Depicts a beach / pier scene from Galveston, Texas.
